Optimizing Stroke Outcomes

At every step in care, from the ED to discharge & follow-up, evidence-based treatment strategies can dramatically decrease disability and death. But even with widely available evidence supporting core interventions, many patients still do not receive the best possible care. Are you giving your patients everything they need for maximal recovery? How will your hospital fare with the 2012 CMS pay-for-reporting on stroke measures?

"Great. I am a little hesitant to continue use of warfarin for fall risk individuals. They need to fall 295 times/year? A lot of our elderly population here in TN live alone, even though they have home health care services. Waiting for them to fall 295 times/year to consider stopping warfarin is quite concerning."

"Thanks for presentation, Dr. Smith.  Great review on stroke. is there a particular dysphagia screening that needs to be done? Is videofluoroscopy necessary in all cases? Or are clinical features for dysphagia enough to establish?"
